One of our all time favorites, nanking cherry is a must to have in any edible landscape. Hardy down to zone 2, this small tree/large shrub produces excellent tasting cherries that are not quite tart but not quite sweet. They have a flavor of their own and are excellent fresh eating, but also great for juicing. One of the first fruits to come on in the summer, nankings stay on the tree long so you can harvest throughout the growing season. They will require renewal training in order to maintain vigor and prevent disease. This is usually around 10 years or so after planting so hopefully we’ll have a video up by then on what this process looks like. Hardy to zone 2 (-40F or more).
