Evan's Bali Seedling (Bundle of 2): Ships Fall 2024
Evan's Bali Seedling (Bundle of 2): Ships Fall 2024
Perhaps the most cold hardy of all tart cherries, Evan’s Bali is a prolific bearer of decently sized (roughly 1” diameter) cherries that are sweeter than most of the other tart cherry varieties. Hardy to zone 2b because of their ability to withstand -42F temps near Bozeman, these Evan’s Bali seedlings should be grown anywhere people want cold climate adapted seedlings. If there are any seedling tart cherries that should be grown in a cold climate, Evan’s Bali may be at the very top of the list due to not just the trees’ ability to withstand long, advective frost events including polar high pressure systems that affect the region for days on end, but their flower buds’ hardiness, the prolific bearing nature of the tree, and their flavor.
Note On These Evan’s Bali Seedling Genetics: The genetic source material from which these seedlings derive have survived in Montana for many years, and have consistently borne large crops of tart cherries even after seeing sub -30F temps than approached -40F. Given the characteristics mentioned above as to why Evan’s Bali should be grown from seed, another factor is that relative to some other tart cherries that require a nearby pollenizer tree of different genetics to fertilize the ovary and thus provide fruit, Evan’s Bali is self-fertile. And for our Montana collected source material where the likelihood of other cross contamination of different tart cherry varieties was low (and also that cherries like other Prunus don’t hold as much genetic info as their Malus/Pyrus counterparts), these seedlings will likely produce tart cherries similar to their Evan’s Bali parent.
Seedlings ship in the Fall and the price includes shipping. These two seedlings are 3+ feet tall and will cross with each other.
