Boyne Raspberry (Bundle of 5)
Boyne Raspberry (Bundle of 5)
Boyne is another excellent Zone 2 raspberry. We’ve seen it growing here in Montana in places where very few other raspberries would survive. Boyne, Nova, and Polana are the most cold-hardy varieties we know of—not only surviving in places like Cut Bank (one of the harshest climates in the state, and also where some of our family homesteaded!), but also producing superb flavor.
Winter Tip for Extreme Cold
One thing we recommend for anyone who might see sub -40°F temps in the winter: lie the canes down on the ground and mulch over them. Just know that you’ll definitely need to give them a support structure come spring—after spending the whole winter under mulch, they’ll have a hard time standing up on their own. But that extra layer of protection can make all the difference if you’re unsure how cold it’s going to get. Sometimes, in the coldest parts of the state, we’ll go years without seeing -50°F—and then the polar vortex dips south, and boom, severe frost!
