Boyne is another excellent zone 2 raspberry. We’ve seen it growing here in Montana in places where very few other raspberries would survive. Boyna, Nova, and Polana are the most cold hardy and not only have we seen them surviving in places like Cut Bank, which is one of the harshest climates in the state (and also where some of our family homesteaded!), the flavor is also superb. One thing that we would recommend for anyone who has the potential of experiencing sub -40F in the winter, is to lie the canes on the ground in the winter and then mulch over them. This does mean that you for sure will need to give them some support structure come Spring because it is then hard for them to stand up straight without any support after spending the whole winter on the ground covered in mulch. But this gives them an added layer of protection if you have any doubt about it getting down to crazy cold temps (sometimes in the coldest part of the state, we may go multiple years in a row without seeing -50F below and then the polar cortex oscillates south and boom, severe frost!).
