Wisconsin Hardy Pear
Wisconsin Hardy Pear
We’ve been growing this for about 5 years and they are vigorous and exceptionally cold hardy to at least zone 3. Has seen -33F and did just fine. Probably has seen colder but this is the only temp we have that was recorded. Hardy pear was found in the midwest early 1940's and had a taste apparently unlike any other pear. When picked prior to frost they store well under cool conditions. The crispy flesh softens for eating pleasure when kept at room temperature for a few days. Must be pollenized by Flemish Beauty, Bosc, Bartlett, Karl’s/Clapp’s, Comice, D’anjou, Flemish Beauty, or Seckel. Zone 3b and possibly zone 3a.
These trees are in two different sizes. The larger were potted from 5-6 ft. tall bareroot in 2023, grew another foot or so (6-7 ft. currently, and will be unpotted for shipping or pickup in Spring 2024. Grafted onto semi-dwarf OHxF87 rootstock. The bare root size is 5-7 ft. tall and also grafted onto OHxF87.
