Bartlett Pear
Bartlett Pear
The most widely grown pear in the world, Barlett doesn’t need much of an introduction. Their taste has stood the test of time and the tree has withstood a -41 F in Minnesota, although we think this may have been an anomaly, because we have seen Bartlett also perish its second year when it saw -38F in Fortine, MT. First grown in 1797, on top of their sweet and juicy taste (especially when left to ripen on the tree which most commercial Bartletts are never given this opportunity), Bartlett is notorious for being a fast grower, which means you won’t have to wait as long for your first harvest. If cramped on space, Bartlett is partially self-fertile and can be planted by itself (however you’ll yield more fruit with a partner). Cold hardy to -35F. This tree will do well in most of the warmer valley in Western Montana (Missoula, Bitterroot, Flathead, Mission), but will likely not be hardy enough for Eastern MT.
These trees are grafted onto OHxF87 and are available in the two sizes.
