Cold Hardy Blueberry Bundle (Bundle of 3): Extra Large Grade of Chippewa, Polaris, & St. Cloud
We have just added this bundle of cold hardy blueberries to the site. These are our extra large grade, coming in at 1-2 ft. tall, with most closer to 2 ft. and some even taller. These will bear within the next year (some even this year!).
The varieties include the following: Chippewa, Polaris, and St. Cloud. These are each half high blueberries and all have been bred by the University of Minnesota for their extreme cold climate adaptability and flavor/productivity. Each can withstand at least -40F without suffering any winter injury. The only ones on this list that we have tried personally is Chippewa, and the flavor was mellow and but sweet, reminiscent of wild blueberry, with a nice tartness on the back end. Great firmness, too, and is considered to be the most productive of all the Minnesota blueberries. Polaris and St. Cloud, meanwhile, have not fruited for us yet. According the U. of Minnesota’s website, Polaris has an aromatic flavor and firm texture, while St. Cloud is considered very sweet and early ripening. Read on for more info.
These blueberries must be planted in a mix of 2/3 sphagnum peat moss and the remaining 1/3 native soil and compost. Additional amendments of elemental sulphur should be made if irrigating with groundwater or if growth ceases significantly.
Each Bundle includes 1 Chippewa, 1 St. Cloud, and 1 Polaris
