Huckleberry (Bundle of 3)

$89.99

People often say that one cannot grow huckleberries domestically or that “no one has figured out a way to propagate them outside of their native habitat”. This is one of those things that people hear but has no bearing on reality. We have been growing huckleberries for several years. There are certain things that must be kept in mind. Firstly, like their blueberry cousins, they do not like alkaline soil. Secondly, they do have mycellium (soil fungi) dependencies and when these are not met, they suffer. They also do not like direct sunlight. So the key is to amend the soil with some forest duff layer where Huckleberries thrive (see photo where there is moss, etc. in the pot we grow them in), periodically add elemental sulphur, and do not expose them to direct sunlight. Hardy to zone 2 (-40F or more).

These huckleberries are large and bushy (1-2 ft.) and are going on their third year.
