Doug's Big Red Juicy Nectarine (Seedling)
Doug's Big Red Juicy Nectarine (Seedling)
These are seedling selections from an unknown yet very tasty nectarine grown by our friend Doug. The tree has been growing in Missoula for over 10 years and consistently bears heavily. The mother tree has been the most hardy nectarine tree we’ve seen and has survived at least -26F while still bearing delicious, plump, sweet-tart nectarines with a nice, jammy, lemony flavor. Hardy to zone 4a. The best nectarine tree we have seen growing in such cold temps. Unknown if this can survive into the -30s. We are erring on the side of saying no, although perhaps if the tree is well protected then it could be grown in 3b, although this is hypothetical. Don’t check the USDA map, but measured minimum winter lows directly in your area.
These trees are seedlings and are therefore on their own roots. They can be expected to reach 20-25 ft at maturity.
